Its A Boy!

Simone and Quintis just had the most gorgeous little boy, Berto. Ten fingers, ten toes, and the cutest face you have ever seen! He almost makes me want one of my own :)

In honour of his arrival, here are the photos from the preganancy shoot we did just before he arrived... we had such fun! Congrats Simone en Quintis... ek dink aan julle!

Zach is back...

And he was kind enough to bring the family along :)

After Roseann and Ash asked me to photograph their family, I could not contain my excitement, and I can't wait to share these photos with all of you!

The beautiful morning turned overcast and drizzly whilst we were on the beach, but it was OK because we had Zach's smile to warm us up. This munchkin is a laugh a minute!

Happy viewing...

The Ellis Family

The most incredible warm feeling overcomes me when I look at these photos. It was a seriously hectic hour that I spent with the Ellis family, but the results really show what an awesome and loving family they are. Plus, no amount of running, jumping, and crouching is ever too much for me - so it turned out to be the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning! Rather don't ask about Saturday afternoon because the normal afternoon snooze became a rest-of-the-day snooze :)

So, the scene was set: Franci and Brett, three children - Emma, Robyn, and Andrew, Gogo (Granny) and Bumpa (Grampa), one gorgeous seaside venue, and a fixed lens (no, not because I am crazy, because its an awesome lens!!!).

3...2...1... let the games begin!

I put my back out running around after everyone, initially with my backpack on just in case I needed anything! But it was so worth it in the end :)

Flowers 'n Bugs

PE gave us a mix of all seasons this weekend, from really windy and cold, to overcast and drizzly but warm, to sunny, and then some more wind. Very strange... but I was armed with my NEW CANON 7D (yaaaaaay!) and I really didn't care. I got the chance to do another shoot with Zach and family on Sunday morning, and we all had so much fun - which resulted in a really great concept for parents and couples that I will launch on the blog within the month - so keep an eye out for that!

There is something so beautiful and refreshing about heading out to the beach on weekend mornings. Nothing can beat it! I'm normally out with families/couples by 07h15 (yes, AM) because the light is so beautiful and the wind is usually quite mild. By the time I get home it feels as if I have experienced a whole day already!

So, in between washing the sand of my feet and downloading the morning's photos, I glanced outside and saw that the drizzle had ceased and the sun was making an appearance. What better way than to use gorgeous light than to go photograph a few flowers and bugs... happy Monday!

Warning: this post involves some humping bugs so lets just call it PG13 :)

Amor and Neil

The past few weeks have been completely hectic! New clients, Photobooks, and a LOT of photo processing! So I may have been neglecting the blog a teeny tiny bit? But... I'm back and I promise I will try harder to keep up with all the happy Mondays to come!

A (few) weeks ago, my dear friend Amor and her fiance Neil allowed me the privilege of photographing their engagement shoot. We headed down to the Maitlands dunes and all arrived pretty late after getting stuck behind the lead pack in a cycling race. There was no getting around the team cars, especially around the winding coastal road. But, once we got there, it was totally worth it - I'm sure you'll agree! Damn that sky was awesome!

So, for you viewing pleasure, I officially present Amor and Neil... enjoy :)

Jo'burg In Full Bloom

I had such an awesome trip to Jo'burg last weekend. I spent some time with the family, caught up with friends, and took TONS of photos!

We travelled through to Parktown and wistfully spent Sunday afternoon in awe of colour. I remember Parktown from high school days, but it felt so different... almost magical. The quiet was only broken by the soft patter of jacaranda blossoms dropping from the trees. And I even got to partake in my second favourite passtime - driving over the fallen blossoms and listening to them pop. It was great!

Spring is quickly taking the lead as my favourite season :)

A Blast From The Past

Going through my photos, I found these that I thought would be a bit different from the norm (it seems the Happy Monday post is becoming a regular item!)

What a blast from the past - so many happy childhood memories come back every time I look at a ferris wheel... including the sweet smell of candy floss (yum!), laughter, and good times.

There are a lot of photos from my Joburg trip waiting to make their way onto the blog, and I have bounced back from my 'man-down-due-to-unknown-funky-bug' week, so there is no better time to say Happy Monday!

Have an awesome day and check back for more soon :)

Macenzie

Wow, I can't believe I managed to edit these photos in two days :) Macenzie is just too cute for words, so the hard work was totally worth it!

For the first half of the shoot she followed me around and smiled, showed me her model moves, and even her superpowers. Then she got bored and did her own thing - both of which made for awesome photos.

The shoot took place around 09h00 in the morning so it was pretty bright and the light was tricky... but we soldiered on nontheless :)

The most amazing thing about children is that they will always let you know when they are done... and just like Ella, Macenzie turned to us and told us she had had enough - all that was left to do was get her over the huge Sardina Bay dune and back to the car. Enjoy!

After the Rains...

Our first proper rain hit last Thursday. PE has suddenly come to life... the haze is gone, the weather is awesome, the birds and bugs are out, and there are puddles of water everywhere (even four days later). It feels like Spring again!

It has been a while since I last posted, so I thought I'd say HAPPY MONDAY! Here are a few macro photos from the weekend to keep the spirits high :)

Bernice

I am beginning to wonder if this wind and miserable weather will ever cease and so I turned to happier, sunnier days.  Don't get me wrong... somewhere, deep inside, I am thankful for the rain. But this PE wind is starting to get to me. When we were still discussing living in PE, all our PE friends/family had only one thing to say "The wind in PE really isn't that bad. It's only for a small part of the year doll." I strongly disagree people, March through to January is more than a small piece of the proverbial pie.

Anyway :) Bernice and I met at Sards Beach early on a beautiful spring morning, and she turned out to be a fantastic model. She was even brave enough to wade slowly into the water...and swiftly out again. The wind (ahem.) howled the previous night, and left the most amazing patterns on the dunes, which we used to our full advantage. She smiled, I clicked... it was wind-free bliss!

A Case of Appearing Cars

Late on a 'breezy' Saturday afternoon, I travelled to the plots of Port Elizabeth with a friend. We were on a 'pre-lens-purchase' inspecting mission. She acquired the aforementioned lens and we made our way around the designated plot, taking pointless photos in the howling wind.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, an old black Mercedes drove past us and was parked outside of a garage. My first instinct? Run back to Amor's car and get my equipment. But by the time I had managed to get the dust out of my eyes, the Mercedes had already been swallowed by the ominous garage.

This was no task for the fainthearted, and fainthearted I am not. With caution (and difficulty), I walked to the garage to see if I could persuade the owner to let us take a few photos. As I rounded the corner, I saw... THIS...

The clouds parted and the angels played a little love song as I stood trying to see this spectacular car through my windswept hair.

In the end, Mr van Eyk graciously let us take photos of both cars, but the Mercedes fell to last place on my list. This Morris took first prize. The details on this car were insane, but there was just not enough light left to fit them all in. So this is my offering. I hope you enjoy!

It just goes to show that interesting things happen in the strangest of places :)

Bianca

Playing catch up with my Facebook page :)

On a personal level, these first two photos rank within my favourites. Take a look and let me know if you agree. There is just something so...contemplative about them. Moody and expressive... just up my alley :)
Bianca was an awesome model and we produced some really great work together. Thanks sweets!
